Backend Engineer

Job description

Hi!

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Ghent.

We are currently processing hundreds of millions of rows of hotel pricing & ranking data on a daily basis and we use a state of the art infrastructure based on the same technologies that power Google Search and Google Maps.

Are you passionate about scalable micro-services, high-performant APIs, and handling large data streams on the fly - all to deliver one of the best BI solutions in the hospitality industry? Great, then read on!

Our company

From the very start of 2012, OTA Insight’s vision is to provide user friendly revenue management tools, as well as becoming the global leader in data intelligence for the hospitality industry.

Our founders launched OTA Insight with a mission to help the hospitality industry visualise and leverage its data. Years of constant development and collaboration with hotel partners has resulted in a simple-to-use, live business intelligence platform.

Since then, OTA Insight has won many industry awards and grown to become the preferred revenue management solution for over 40,000 independent, local and global chain properties in 168 countries, supported by 120+ stellar employees.

What you might work on

OTA Insight is a fast-growing scale-up where priorities might shift from time to time. You’ll likely get experience on a few different projects, but here are some general topics:

  • Architect, code and maintain our config management and API backends
  • Develop APIs able to crunch large amounts of data on the fly
  • Deploy and monitor applications in a reproducible and scalable way
  • Clean, analyse and combine internal and external data-sets
  • Experiment, think and take ownership of a piece of our tech stack/infrastructure and find ways to improve it
  • Provide support to your team members and other teams in the company. We have a very open and flat structure and have a very short feedback loop on both internal and customer questions
  • Enjoy our journey as a fast-paced company that’s growing every year. There’s always a reason to celebrate!

Technologies you’ll work with

Google Cloud, Kubernetes, Python, GoLang, JS

Even though we love the above technologies (and many more), we always try to find the best technology for the job! We aren’t tied to a specific toolkit.

Requirements

About You

We are looking for the right mindset, not for a specific skillset:

  • You are a 5* engineer, a high achiever and technically skilled in both architecture and in implementation. You have gained knowledge through education or experience in software architecture, scalable system, web development, scripting and programming languages. You are not afraid to get your hands dirty.
  • You are passionate about technology. What unites us is our passion to build great products that delight our users. We want you to take on big technical challenges that substantially improve our products and our user’s workflows!
  • You are creative, entrepreneurial and open for innovation. We strongly believe that everything can be improved. We expect you to think and learn about new technologies, and take initiative to try and suggest new things. We want to be on the edge of technology to be able to offer our customers the best products and we want you to take the lead!
  • You understand that perfect is the enemy of the good. We develop solutions that present complex data in a simple way. We develop highly scalable APIs and data pipelines but don’t over-engineer them. Therefore you are a critical thinker.
  • You are able to work in a team as well as handle work individually. You’ll quickly learn that we have a very open culture and that everyone can be reached out to for help, ideas, feedback and much more. Aside the great teamwork, you’ll notice that everyone takes responsibility to execute small and large projects on their own given the necessary business context - we trust you can also take care of yourself!
  • You have great communication skills, both to technical and non-technical parties. With offices and customers all over the world, being able to word issues in an approachable way is increasingly important.
