We are growing rapidly and are now looking for a full-time Data Journalist to craft newsworthy content to engage and inform our audiences using infographics, data visualizations and digital storytelling on our blog and social media.
Reporting to the PR & Content Manager, the Data Journalist role is expected to make a major contribution towards the publication of our data projects. We are looking for a creative data journalist to boost our data journalism output to increase mindshare and position OTA Insight as the hospitality industry thought leader for data insights.
To unearth data-driven insights from OTA Insight’s data projects that position OTA Insight as the thought leader in the industry.
To generate ideas for data-driven stories and for how they might be developed and visualised.
To explore those ideas using statistical tools – and present them to wider stakeholders from a non-statistical background.
To report on, analyse and present data in a way that tells compelling stories across a range of marketing, media and internal reporting formats.
To collaborate with internal teams, reporters, editors, designers and developers to bring those stories to publication in different formats / languages.
To lead editorially on data projects as required and collaboratively work with the data science and marketing teams.
To use skills and experience to advise on best approaches to data-led storytelling and the development and publication of data-led projects.
You will use our CMS to write and publish your content across our digital and social platforms at scale.
The Ideal Candidate:
You are obsessed with data and the storylines rich data can tell.
You are a self-starter, brimming with original ideas on how to best apply data-driven journalism.
You have experience working with a data visualisation/exploration tool such as: Excel, Tableau, Infogram, Chartblocks, Datawrapper.
You are eager to find ways to complement news stories and content pieces, when appropriate, or to identify original stories that can be distributed to industry press.
You have experience taking complicated data sets and thinking through how they could be represented clearly and visually with an impactful story.
You have the ability to spot stories that help clarify and simplify complicated data sets.
You are able to delve behind headline figures and then confidently and succinctly explain the fuller picture to our audiences as well as other colleagues.
You are able to communicate effectively with different stakeholders, from engineers to sales representatives.
You are able to execute to tight and demanding deadlines.
You are focused on creating content that will engage our global audiences, providing them with useful and thought provoking information.
You have sound knowledge of, or a background in the hospitality/tourism industry.
